A gasket is a mechanical seal which fills the space between two or more mating surfaces, usually to prevent escape from or into the joined objects while under compression. It is a deformable material that is used to generate a static seal and maintain that seal below many operating conditions in a mechanical assembly. They are usually manufactured from a variety of materials, including rubber, cork or paper, metal, copper, and foam. This elastic element can be used for a broad scope of purposes due to its functionality. These include anti-vibration, packaging, hygiene, noise and sound reduction, and most importantly, its most common use, sealing.
